Sucre
Sucre is a beautiful colonial city known as the "White City" for its whitewashed buildings. The city is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with a rich history, as it’s where Bolivia declared independence. Visitors can explore colonial architecture, vibrant markets and museums like Casa de la Libertad.
The city offers stunning views from La Recoleta and unique attractions like Parque Cretácico, home to thousands of dinosaur footprints, just outside of the city.
Some things to do in the city:
Explore Plaza 25 de Mayo
Plaza 25 de Mayo is Sucre’s central square and a great starting point for exploring the city. It is surrounded by historical buildings, cafes, and museums. You can enjoy the colonial architecture, relax in the park, and people-watch.
Climb to La Recoleta
The La Recoleta viewpoint offers one of the best panoramic views of the city. It’s a short uphill walk from the center but worth the climb. At the top, you'll find a peaceful square, the historic Convento de La Recoleta, and artisan shops. There is a small bar for great sunset views over the city, Café Time & Coffee La Recoleta.
Visit the San Felipe Neri Convent
This old convent offers rooftop access, where you can enjoy 360-degree views of the city and its red-tiled roofs. The convent itself is peaceful and historic, and the views from the rooftop are some of the best in Sucre.
Visit Parque Cretácico (Dinosaur Park)
If you're interested in paleontology, this park is home to one of the largest collections of dinosaur footprints in the world, located at the Cal Orck’o site. You can see 5,000 well-preserved dinosaur footprints from the Cretaceous period. You can also take a guided tour or join a fun “dino bus” from the city center to the park. This bus leaves at the Plaza 25 de Mayo.
Don’t expect too much from this park.
