Ahangama
Ahangama, located at 10 min West from Weligama, is becoming a popular surf town in Sri Lanka, with many new surf camps along its beautiful coastline. While most visitors come for the surfing, Ahangama offers much more than just great waves. You can relax with yoga, watch the famous stilt fishermen, or enjoy the amazing restaurants.
One of these restaurants is Ceylon Sliders Ahangama, located on a small beach with different restaurants and bars. We accidentally found this bar and we loved it. It is easily accessible from the street and offers the best sunset view in Ahangama. We liked it so much we went to see the sunset two nights in a row.
The restaurant serves great food and delicious drinks, and there's a DJ playing music.
Stilt Fisherman
This small beach is lovely, but it serves dual purposes. In the morning, local fishermen use it for fishing, perched on their stilts. But by day, it transforms into a tourist spot, with some people pretending to be fishermen for photo opportunities. They'll pose on the stilts for a fee, giving the impression of fishing for tourists. It's neat to see, but I wished for a more authentic local experience instead of just a tourist attraction.
I took the first two pictures secretly, some other tourists paid those ‘fishers’.
I refused to do so. Pictures taken one hour before sunset.
You can find the location here on Google Maps.
