Copacabana
Nestled on the shores of Lake Titicaca, Copacabana is a small, charming town known for its stunning scenery and rich cultural heritage. Visitors can explore the Basilica of Our Lady of Copacabana, hike up Cerro Calvario for breathtaking views, enjoy the beautiful sunset at one of the lakefront bars and take boat trips to the beautiful Isla del Sol.
The most common way to reach Copacabana is by bus from La Paz. Buses leave regularly from the La Paz Cemetery bus terminal. The journey takes about 3.5 to 4 hours.
Isla del Sol is the main thing to do in Copacabana, the island is steeped in Inca legend and natural beauty, a wonderful place for hiking. Accessible by boat from Copacabana, the island features ancient ruins like the Sacred Rock and Chincana labyrinth. Hike its scenic trails from North to South or South to North, passing terraced hillsides and traditional villages, while enjoying breathtaking lake views. With no vehicles on the island, Isla del Sol offers a peaceful escape. I suggest hiking from North to South. The northern route has a gentle climb up the hills, while the southern route has a lot of stairs before you reach the trail.
